Scenes from the Hat

Issue 7: November-December 2024

Welcome to Scenes from the Hat, a bimonthly newsletter that highlights local theater news, updates, and featurettes on many of the talented people who make up the Greater Lynchburg Theater Community.

We are celebrating our one year anniversary of Scenes From the Hat! This has been a privilege to write every two months and many have said it is one of their favorite features that the Foundation offers. People love the interviews with some of the local talent and learning about the theaters in the surrounding area. If you have any suggestions for upcoming articles or people you want to learn more about, please drop us a line here and let us know!

This is a smaller issue because we have been quite busy planning for our upcoming event, the Lynchburg Community Theatre Festival, which is scheduled for January 18. Tickets are on sale NOW! Check out "What's New With Us" for more information - you won't want to miss this exciting evening! Also in this issue, we get to visit another theater located right in the heart of Lynchburg, plus we'll do a deep dive with someone you may have seen on stage but probably know her as the epitome of a top-notch stage manager.

We love you all and thanks for your continued support!

What's New With Us

The first Lynchburg Community Theatre Festival is right around the corner! This event has been an idea that's been brewing since the earliest days of the Foundation. The mission of the Foundation has always been to support the theaters in the Greater Lynchburg area. This Festival takes that a step further by celebrating the people who bring these shows to life! An evening of dancing, dining, and activities is planned, with each theater being showcased

This issue, we are going directly to the heart of Lynchburg to Renaissance Theatre, primarily housed at the Miller Center adjascent to Miller Park. Renaissance is the longest running community theater in the city of Lynchburg. Founded in 1988 by a group of alumni from Lynchburg College (now the University of Lynchburg), the theater started as a dinner theater located on Bedford Avenue. Eventually the theater moved on from the meal portion and focused solely on the performance aspect.  One of its earliest shows was You Know I Can't Hear You When the Water is Running, starring
