The Lynchburg area is home to professional and regional theatres as well. These theatres have established roots outside of major theater centers (i.e. Broadway, West End, etc.). First-rate theatre is provided by a mixture of local talent and professional actors belonging to the Actor's Equity Association or a similar union. Most if not all the members of a production receive compensation.

The Actor's Equity Association (often referred to simply as "Equity") is an American labor union that represents those who work in the live theatre performing arts. Membership is limited to actors and stage managers who have worked at the professional level.
